Under animal skin
The wild white hoarse voice
Speaks through all things
Hooves and hum
In the darkness run
Spun down from mountain heights
The broken branch of starry lights
Held high
Against the hard-hearted night
Come ~ the haunted hum
The heavy drone
The perfect pitch
The pitch black tone
As violent as touch
As soft as bone
She entered into the dark pine cabin.
A single light, electric flicker.
A lit cigarette. Bright blur into black.
"Sorrow's in the lungs, she says.
We are plunged into a watery stillness.
Flicker of embers, ash.
She takes the light into her body, softly sways
and shakes her hair.
"Fire came last to the garden, night first -
but the memory is as hazy as smoke seen through shadow."
She smiles in the darkness. And all is shining.
